Hi Everyone,
I’m going to be brief today. I had a great Christmas with my family. I hope you did too. I have started a much needed break from work and getting a lot of chores, reading, and writing done. It has been awesome!
What I really needed was the rest. I haven’t shared this on substack (but if you follow me on Instagram, you might already know), but I have news. I’m pregnant! My husband and I will be welcoming our baby girl in the spring and we couldn’t be more excited!!
We have been staying busy with moving, work, and getting ready for the baby. I’ve never been more exhausted.
I hope to go deeper into my experience with how this pregnancy has affected my writing at some point (silly me had hoped to sit down and get my thoughts down this week, but I need a nap…) I’ve had to learn to change my routine, to prioritize taking care of my body’s needs. It’s been a steep learning curve! My actual writing and revising time slowed waaayyy down. I thought that would bother me more, but I’ve been okay. Working on getting my newsletter together has been a lot of fun. I’ve been digging through old works and getting a lot of reading and learning done. Feeling the baby kick makes the changes all worth it :)
This is my long-winded way of sharing that I will be taking the month of January off of substack. I am looking forward to having focused writing time so I can get the launch of Marredbury ready for you and I can still get the rest the baby and I need. (You can read more about Marredbury in the writing news of my last update)
Breaks are talked about more, not just in the writing community, but across different fields. Before the pregnancy, I would take a week off every quarter, shut my computer off, and spend time watching movies and doing other projects I enjoy.
Do any of you have a routine that includes taking breaks (from work, from people, whatever you need)? Any New Year’s Resolutions revolving around self-care? Let me know below, I’d love to hear about it!
Other than chatting in the comments, I’ll reach out again in February! I’m off to over-research the items on my baby registry. Enjoy your New Year Celebrations! Go 2023!!
One Last Thing
I have one last Christmas giveaway for you to end out the year. This one is a smaller collection, a lot of great looking spooky tales. I like to read A Christmas Carol every year in December, but this time I have other (scarier) books on my tbr list. Always so many books, never enough time! Grab your copies before the end of December
Enjoy!
Yay!!!! Can’t wait for my first niece 🎉
